The food guru's in town

Guru Ghuman, known for his popular Albury cafe, will start serving coffee and other treats from Wodonga on Monday.

The final touches are being made to Guru’s Cafeteria Wodonga at 8/137 High St, entry via Stanley St.

Ghuman will replicate his popular food menu that includes nourishing meals with Middle Eastern herbs and plenty of lunch options such as salads, sandwiches, pastas and burgers.

The Albury eatery, which will celebrate its 10th birthday later this year, has made a name for itself with its consistent coffee and authentic chai made from an old Indian family recipe.

Ghuman will also bring across his friendly nature that has seen him amass a large following.

“Hospitality was my first job and I have been in the industry ever since,” Ghuman said.

“I enjoy talking to people and serving them, this truly is my passion.”

Ghuman will split his time between the Dean St establishment and the new Wodonga shop, which is looking for a barista to join the team.

Barista Harry Singh, a long-time friend who worked with Ghuman in Sydney, will manage the Wodonga shop which was previously home to That Little Place, a store showcasing local artisans, producers, and crafts people that has since moved online.

The building has undergone a renovation, including a kitchen fit-out and boasts a modern look with a black and white colour pallet.

The space has the capacity for 30 tables with both inside and outside dining.

“It’s a great spot, we are on the main street and the courtyard is great, it will be nice sitting outside in good weather,” Ghuman said.

Ghuman has noticed a lot of his Wodonga business neighbours are regulars at his Dean St shop.

“They will be able to get their coffee in Wodonga now,” he said.

The shop will open 6am to 4pm from Monday to Saturday and will close on Sundays for the interim.
