A well-known Wodonga dance business will continue providing its family-friendly service from a new location at 2/14-16 South St.
Border Danceworks, which has been operating in Wodonga for 27 years, has come a long way from its humble beginnings at the Wodonga Sports and Leisure Centre.
Owner Kylie Romeike opened the first shopfront in South St back in 1997.
“We were actually across the road from where we are now, so we have come full circle,” she said.
Most recently the business was operating from a renovated shed in Hovell St.
“Our new location is a prominent shopfront that’s in a central location and is visible from the road,” Ms Romeike said.
“We have renovated the new space and finished the wood floors nicely.
“At the start of the year, we also changed our branding and designed a new logo.”
The business offers a variety of dance classes including ballet, jazz, contemporary, hip hop, tap, ballroom and acro.
“We recently introduced barre classes for adults, which is a nice fitness class that’s open to any fitness level,” Ms Romeike said.
Recent government health restrictions meant classes were running via Zoom, but Ms Romeike is happy to re-open the studio door this week.
“It’s great to be back and we are open Monday to Friday,” she said.
Ms Romeike, who was born and bred in Wodonga, couldn’t think of a better place to run a business.
“We have been around a long time and my mum, Kerrie, has been with us from the start,” she said.
“We take pride in our family-friendly service and have a great team of five dance teachers who are highly qualified in their style of dance.”
Ms Romeike started dancing when she was just three years old.
“I started with jazz, ballet and tap, there was not much hip hop when I was coming up through the ranks,” she said.
“I then did a lot of competing in ballroom and later I did some competing in Latin American dance.
“The benefits of dance are huge for kids; they love coming together to dance to music and it’s also great for their fitness.”
The dance studio is taking enrolments and caters for everyone, starting with tiny tot classes for 18-month-olds through to adults.
